About Attorney John Stamps |
Trial Attorney in the Black Belt Counties Across Alabama and Georgia
Rooted in Alabama, Committed to Service all around the Black Belt Counties Across Alabama and Georgia
Attorney John Thomas “Ivan” Stamps III is a native of Talladega County, Alabama, and a 1988 graduate of Winterboro High School, where he excelled academically, earned national recognition as one of the country’s top students, and was accepted into multiple Ivy League institutions, including his dream college, Harvard University. Although financial limitations prevented him from attending Harvard, the experience strengthened his resolve rather than deterring his ambition.
Attorney Stamps began his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama; however, his early college experience did not mirror his high-school success. While a student at the University of Alabama, he did not fully apply himself academically and, like many African American young men facing social and environmental pressures, struggled to maintain the discipline needed for academic success.
After stepping away from school in the early 1990s, he built a successful career in sales, gaining real-world experience in entrepreneurship, business operations, and client service, which still influences how he represents and advises clients today. Guided by the principle his parents taught him — “To whom much is given, much is required” — he returned to higher education with renewed discipline and purpose. He graduated magna cum laude from Alabama A&M University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, earned his Juris Doctor from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2003, and soon thereafter passed the Alabama Bar Exam.
From the outset of his legal career, Attorney Stamps chose private practice and committed himself to representing working families and underserved communities throughout Alabama’s Black Belt, Georgia and beyond. His practice centers on ensuring that ordinary people — particularly those too often overlooked by the legal system — have a capable and relentless advocate when it matters most.
Focused on the Rights of the Individual
Community and Faith
John Stamps built his practice around a simple principle: the law should protect everyday people. Whether representing injury victims facing powerful insurance companies or defending individuals against serious allegations, his approach is grounded in preparation, discipline, and courtroom readiness. Personal injury law is now the primary focus of the practice, particularly cases involving serious harm, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and complex litigation. Every case receives direct attorney involvement and strategic evaluation. Clients are not treated like files—they are treated like individuals whose futures matter.
Attorney Stamps remains active in his community and is a member of Mount Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Alpine, Alabama. His background, upbringing, and professional experiences continue to shape the way he serves his clients. His work reflects a belief in accountability, responsibility, and service.
